The government decided this Wednesday (13) to grant a 5% readjustment to all federal public servants, even without enough space in the Budget, which will lead to a cut in funds in other areas. The cost of the measure is approximately BRL 6 billion in 2022.
The decision is made after months of back and forth on the readjustments of civil servants and after pressure from the Planalto Palace on the economic team in recent days to reach an outcome this week.
The 2022 Budget only has BRL 1.7 billion reserved for readjustments or restructuring of civil servants’ careers this year and, in addition, since March, resources have been contingencyted to respect the spending ceiling rule (which prevents the growth of federal expenses above inflation). Therefore, other areas will lose resources.
Initially, the government’s idea was to grant a raise only to police careers, such as the Sheet published last year. Then, faced with the negative reaction of the other segments of the civil service, he started to consider alternatives that contemplated all.
The president himself even signaled that, if there was no consensus, the readjustment could only be for 2023.
Police careers are considered the electoral base of Bolsonaro, who is in second place in polls, behind former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
