Mônica Bergamo: The reporter of the IR reform says it is ‘awful’ and provides a trigger for 10% inflation in the exemption table

Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA), rapporteur of the Income Tax reform, says it is “awful” and “badly written” and that there is no chance of being voted on this year. He made the statements at the Lisbon Legal Forum, organized by the FGV and the IDP.

The text of the reform has already been approved in the Chamber and is now facing resistance in the Senate.

Colonel confirmed the statements to the column and affirmed that the reform will remain in his “drawer” until the debate is deepened.

Coronel also says that, in addition to presenting a separate bill to increase the income tax exemption range, from R$ 2,500 provided by the government to R$ 3,300, he intends to create a trigger to correct it. “Every time inflation exceeds 10%, it will be triggered automatically”, says the senator.

In the debate, the reform also received criticism from tax lawyer Luiz Gustavo Bichara. According to him, VAT, a consumption tax, will be one of the largest in the world: if approved as it is, the rate will reach 30%.
