The government will continue, in a sensible way, the support of households and businesses, the Minister of Finance points out in a statement Christos Staikourascommenting on the data published by ELSTAT.
According to the Minister of Finance, the gross disposable income of households for 2021 – despite the expected losses due to the energy crisis in the 4th quarter – showed a significant an increase of 3.7 billion euros in relation to 2019.
In fact, he emphasizes, the total disposable income in 2021 is the highest, annually, since 2013. At the same time, citizens’ deposits have increased by 37 billion euros at the end of 2021.
In addition, according to ELSTAT data, the primary deficit of 2021 amounted to 5% of GDP, lower than the forecast of 7% of the State Budget 2022, while the General Government debt as a percentage of GDP fell significantly from 206.3% in 2020 to 193.3% in 2021.
As the Minister of Finance notes, “these data prove the correctness and effectiveness of the economic policy pursued by the government throughout the period of prolonged and severe crises, having substantially supported the disposable income of the citizen, without overburdening public finances. On the contrary, as reflected in the ELSTAT data, it is recorded as important improving the public debt ratio “.
“All the above is a result and at the same time proof that the Greek economy has recovered dynamically, the citizens have been substantially helped and the management of public finances has been done in a prudent, but also efficient way. “These positive developments significantly enhance the country’s credibility and confidence, and at the same time allow us to continue, in a sensible way, to support households and businesses affected by rising energy prices.”
ELSTAT announced today, Holy Thursday, the provisional data for the quarterly non-financial accounts of institutional sectors for the 4th quarter of 2021 and the financial data for the period 2018-2021.
