Boosted by other fairs, Agrishow can even double billionaire revenue

by

After reaching BRL 2.9 billion in business intentions in 2019, in the last in-person edition before the pandemic, organizers and exhibitors of the 27th Agrishow (International Fair of Agricultural Technology in Action) expect to double their turnover this year.

With an estimated public of 150,000 Brazilian and foreign visitors, Agrishow will take place between this Monday (25) and Friday (29), from 8 am to 6 pm, in Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo countryside). Tickets cost BRL 65 (at the box office) and BRL 55 (purchase through the website, until this Sunday), with half-price for people over 60 and students.

The fair is located on the Prefeito Antônio Duarte Nogueira highway, Km 321. Parking costs R$55 (conventional), R$70 (vans and buses) and R$75 (VIP). You must present proof of complete vaccination or negative PCR test result, performed up to 48 hours before, or antigen, performed 24 hours before the visit. Masks are not mandatory.

The optimism for the Ribeirão Preto event is justified by the performance of other agricultural exhibitions already held in 2022.

The 34th Rural Coopavel Show, held in February in the city of Cascavel (PR), had the best performance in its history, with R$ 3.2 billion in business. In 2020, it was R$ 2.7 billion. The public was also surprised: 150 thousand visitors were expected, but there were 285 thousand.

The 22nd Expodireto Cotrijal, which took place in March in the city of Não-Me-Toque (RS), received 263 thousand visitors, which represents a 3% increase over the 2020 public. The organization estimates that R$ 4.9 billions were moved this year, compared to R$2.6 billion in the previous edition — held just before the start of the pandemic.

On the 8th, Tecnoshow Comigo, an event in Rio Verde (GO), announced a turnover of BRL 10.6 billion in business, with 128,000 visitors — compared to BRL 3.4 billion and 118,000 in 2019.

Although sales of machines and implements have not been paralyzed in the pandemic, industry representatives say that nothing replaces personal contact for closing deals.

“Seeing the technology and having the financial support nearby makes the producer confident to invest more and more in technological solutions that will add value and sustainability to their operations”, said the sales director of John Deere Brazil, Marcelo Lopes.

For him, the producer is increasingly attentive to planning and buying his machinery in advance, which was not so often before.

João Carlos Marchesan, president of Abimaq (Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry), which is one of the directors of Agrishow, believes that the event in Ribeirão Preto has the potential to surpass fairs already held this year.

“I participated in the fairs in Cascavel, Não-Me-Toque and Rio Verde. They were large fairs, but of course there was the impact of the drought that the southern region went through,” said Marchesan.

New Holland Agriculture’s Brazil market director, Eduardo Kerbauy said that it is difficult to establish a number of closed deals, as the year will be one of recovery.

“There are some problems, such as the imbalance in the supply chain, but we believe that the sales volume will be higher than in 2021”, says the Executive. “There is indeed the possibility of doubling revenues due to the increase in costs and, consequently, in prices to the final consumer, combined with the potential for sales growth from 2019 to now.”

Although there is no official forecast from the organization, Maurilio Biagi Filho, honorary president of the agricultural fair, said at an event in April that he estimated that the movement would reach R$ 6 billion.

The mayor of Ribeirão Preto, Duarte Nogueira (PSDB), who holds a degree in agronomic engineering and is a former secretary of Agriculture in São Paulo, said that the fair will allow for the acceleration of technologies.

“In the previous ones, until 2019, it was always assumed that the technological leap took seven years to happen, but now the obsolescence of equipment is taking three to four years.”

Questioned by Sheet on business prospects, the fair’s president, Francisco Matturro, the current secretary of Agriculture in São Paulo, stated that he “would have to guess” to respond. “And I don’t guess. I think we’re going to reach a big volume, we’re going to overcome [2019].”

The organization’s initial forecast is that Agrishow will attract 150,000 Brazilian and foreign visitors, a total similar to recent years.

In addition to the sectors that have historically attracted the most attention from visitors, such as agricultural machinery, planes and luxury pickup trucks, this year there will also be a track for autonomous trucks.

Ribeirão has 17 thousand hotel beds and all are fully booked for the five days of the fair, even with the daily rate having doubled in some cases in relation to the low season. Neighboring cities in the metropolitan region, such as Sertãozinho and Batatais, have received visitors and exhibitors from the fair in their hotel chains.
