Anvisa identified this Thursday (28) new batches of chocolates from the Italian group Ferrero that are under suspicion of contamination by salmonella.
The agency determined that the company Bercom Produtos Alimentícios collects all batches of 11 imported products produced in Belgium.
According to Anvisa, Ferrero itself filed, on its behalf, a request with the agency for the voluntary collection of products manufactured in Belgium. The brand’s Brazilian unit does not import these products from the European country, but has identified that other companies do so independently.
Ferrero claims that it does not have commercial relations with the companies responsible for importing
Last week, the regulatory agency had already banned the sale or import of Ferrero products produced in Belgium that were recalled in other countries, in addition to having identified units of 200 g white chocolate from the Schoko-Bons line in Brazil. In this case, the importer was Terra Nova Trading, which was responsible for the collection.
In total, the agency has already published four resolutions on the case.
Ferrero collects new batches of kinder chocolate brought from Belgium
Ferrero do Brasil said this Wednesday (27) that it had become aware of other products of the brand that may be contaminated by salmonella.
The company started a voluntary collection of chocolates. They are from the Schoko-Bons line, in cocoa and white flavors and in different sizes. Before that, Anvisa had only become aware of the presence in the white version of 200g in Brazil.
On April 8, the AFSCA (Belgian Food Safety Agency) announced the closure of a Kinder chocolate factory that was the source of an outbreak of salmonella in at least nine countries in Europe. At the time, the agency said that Ferrero provided incomplete information about the case.
Although chocolate is not the main source of contamination of the disease, the bacteria can contaminate the cocoa bean and remain in the subsequent stages of processing until obtaining the candy.
On its website, Anvisa asks consumers to check the origin of the product on the back of the package. If it was manufactured in Belgium, the advice is to contact Ferrero’s Customer Service so that the company can arrange the collection.
