Electricity: These are the vampire devices that set fire to the bill

by

At a time when most people are trying to save electricity, with its price to hit “red”some vampire home appliances consume power even when in standby mode.

In general, as long as the devices are plugged in – be it the router, the laptop, or the audio system – they are slowly consuming power.

For example, the TV may be off, but as long as the red light on the bottom is on, it consumes electricity.

It is estimated that due to these devices consumers pay an average of € 175 a day – or € 3.75 billion a year.

Here are some of the vampire devices and how much you pay more per year on average if you leave them in standby:

  • TV: About 29 euros per year and another 27 euros if you have a decoder or DVD player connected.
  • Microwave: About 20 euros a year.
  • Gaming consoles: About 15 euros extra per year.
  • Computers: About 13 euros a year.
  • Shower: About 12 euros a year.
  • Washing machine: About 6 euros a year.
  • Printer: About 5 euros extra per year.
  • Mobile charger: About 1.5 euros per year.

The best thing you can do is use “smart” sockets or extensions with a switch, which you can turn on and off (especially at night) when you try.

Finally, try not to charge more than your mobile phone or laptop needs. When it reaches 100%, that is, unplug it. Not only will you save electricity, but with this practice your battery will last longer.

It is noted that the above figures apply to the United Kingdom, which from April 1 saw significant increases in energy bills. As in recent weeks our country has the most expensive market electricity across Europe, these numbers will need to be adjusted upwards.
