McDonald’s decided to stop selling the Novos McPicanha line sandwiches throughout Brazil. The snacks became controversial this Thursday (28), when the company received a notification from the Ministry of Justice after publicly confirming that the sandwiches are not made with picanha, but with a flavored sauce.
The matter had repercussions on social networks, especially after the press release in which the fast food chain said that “the brand regrets that the communication created about the new products may have generated doubts and informs that new pieces, highlighting the composition of the more clearly, are already being produced”.
This Friday (29) the snacks from the Novos McPicanha line disappeared from digital menus and restaurants across the country. When asked if it intends to return with the sale of snacks with a new advertising campaign, the company said in a note that it is “evaluating the next steps.”
According to the company, “the newly launched platform called Novos McPicanha was named precisely to provide a new experience to consumers with the exclusive picanha-flavored sauce, a new presentation and a different hamburger in composition and size (100% beef, produced with a blend of selected cuts and in the largest size currently offered by the chain)”.
The Ministry of Justice has given a period of ten days for the company to send clarifications about possible misleading advertising, says in a note to Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat), linked to the folder.
The sale of snacks had already been suspended by Procon-DF and the company was notified to give answers about the advertising and composition of sandwiches until May 2 by Procon-SP.
