Starting next Saturday (7), all gas stations in the country will have to display prices with only two decimal places, no longer with three, as is the case today. The change was defined by the ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels) in November to facilitate consumer understanding.
The ordinance that implemented the change gave a period of 180 days for the adaptation of the stations. The ANP says that the measure has no impact on the final price of the products, as it does not bring relevant costs to the reseller or restrictions on the prices charged.
The display of prices with only two decimal places must be done both in the price panels of the stations and in the displays of the pumps.
The ANP authorized the stations to lock the last decimal place on the pumps, to avoid the need to change equipment. In this case, the third digit must display the number zero and must not rotate when the car is being fueled.
“The purpose of the change is to make the price of fuel more accurate and clear for the consumer, in addition to being in line with the numerical expression of the Brazilian currency”, said the ANP, in a note released this Monday (2).
The November ordinance also brought other changes in the fuel market, such as the authorization for the delivery of gasoline and ethanol and the direct sale of ethanol from the plants to the gas stations. The measures were backed by the government on the grounds that they could help stem the rise in prices.
