Panel SA: Supermarket inventories fall in April

by

The average volume of inventories in Brazilian supermarket retail dropped in April. It is the lowest monthly level since January 2020, according to Neogrid, a research firm specializing in supply chains.

The drop was more than 9% compared to April last year and 16% compared to the same month in 2020.

In March, the situation was reversed, with a slight increase in inventories, a scenario that may have been reversed by several factors, according to Robson Munhoz, director of Neogrid.

One of them is the expansion of promotions to attract customers, which must have helped to consume inventories. The moment that retail is going through is an alert in the face of balance so as not to scare away the consumer with price passes or erode too much margins in the midst of inflation.

Neogrid also attributes the oscillation to the scenario of difficulty in importing inputs from China and the soaring inflation and diesel, which directly interfere in negotiations between industry and retail and in logistics, because the arm wrestling can prolong the process until supply. .

The survey is based on data from 80% of the largest supermarket chains in the country, according to Neogrid.
