Elon Musk said Saturday that Twitter’s legal team accused him of violating a confidentiality agreement by revealing that the sample size for the platform’s checks on bots (automated accounts) and fake accounts was 100 profiles.
“Twitter Legal just called me to complain that I violated their confidentiality agreement by revealing that the bot verification sample size is 100 profiles!” tweeted Musk, CEO of electric car maker Tesla.
On Friday, Musk wrote that his $44 billion deal to make Twitter a private company was temporarily on hold while he awaited data on the size of fake accounts on the platform.
He said his team would test a random sample of 100 Twitter followers to identify the bots. His response to a question prompted the company’s indictment.
When a user asked Musk for details on the bot account filtering process, the billionaire replied, “I chose 100 as the sample size number because that’s what Twitter uses to calculate <5% false /spam/duplicate".
Musk tweeted this Sunday morning that he had yet to see any analysis showing the social media company has less than 5% fake accounts.
He later stated that “there is some chance that more than 90% are daily active users”.
