Elon Musk arrives at São Paulo condominium to have lunch with Bolsonaro

by

Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, arrived in São Paulo around 9 am, this Friday (20), for a lunch with President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), government officials and businessmen.

Two helicopters have already landed at Fasano Boa Vista, a luxury condominium located in Porto Feliz, in the interior of São Paulo. Entrepreneurs from different sectors await the billionaire, who is expected to speak for 30 minutes about how technology can help protect the Amazon and promote education.

Fábio Faria, Minister of Communications, wrote earlier on social media that the billionaire arrived in Brazil at his invitation to talk to the government about connectivity in the Amazon.

In addition to Faria and businessmen, ministers General Heleno, Ciro Nogueira, Carlos França and Paulo Sérgio are attending the lunch.

The agenda is regulation in the Amazon and connectivity of schools, which has already been the subject of previous meetings between Musk and the Brazilian government.

In November last year, the Ministry of Communications announced that it had entered into a partnership with SpaceX, which sells technology for transport and communications, to connect remote areas of Brazil with low-altitude satellites.

The ministry said that the implementation of the program would begin in 2022. The partnership for low-orbit satellites does not depend on a bidding process, and can be closed through an administrative process at Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency).

SpaceX has already applied for a license to the municipality. The amounts involved in the partnership have not been revealed so far.

This Friday’s meeting comes as Musk’s popularity grows among far-right groups in the face of the billionaire’s negotiations to buy Twitter.

The businessman intends to reduce the moderation of content on the social network, which pleased users penalized for the dissemination of false information about public health and electoral processes, for example.

In April, Musk announced the purchase of Twitter for US$ 44 billion (R$ 216.4 billion). Last week, however, the businessman temporarily suspended the agreement to acquire the platform. He later stated on the social network that he is still committed to the acquisition.
