Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones left £30m fortune

by

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts left a fortune of around £30 million in his will to widow Shirley, 83, according to The Sun. He died at age 80, in a hospital in London, in August 2021.

When Shirley dies, the fortune left by Watts will pass to her daughter Seraphina, 54, Watts’ sister Linda Rootes, sisters-in-law Jackie Fenwick and Jill Minder and brother-in-law Stephen Shepherd.

The documents show that the total inheritance does not include the value of his property in France – believed to be worth millions more. Watts ordered that his cars – including those he collected but never drove – be distributed according to his wishes. Instructions will never be made public.

The star had pulled out of the band’s “No Filter” tour of the US at the last minute, days earlier, following heart surgery. Her will was drawn up and signed on May 31, 2017. The 14-page document tells Watts’ executors to use the income from her fortune to support her “beneficiaries” as they see fit.

Charlie had been playing with the Stones since 1963 and appeared on every album. He met Shirley before the band became successful and married her in 1964.

Despite his bandmates being known for their antics, Watts was known as the “sensible member” of the Stones.

He quit smoking in the late 1980s, but developed throat cancer in 2004, which was successfully treated with radiation therapy.
