A new priceless treasure has been discovered by Egyptian archaeologists at the Sakkara Necropolis, which probably still hides in its bowels many untold secrets. They were discovered in the cemetery more than 450 decorated, sealed sarcophagi containing mummies in good condition, all dating to about 2,500 years ago. Many of the statues discovered depicted the goddess. In 2019, however, the site was renamed the Sacred Animal Cemetery after archaeologists discovered mummified animals and statues of other Egyptian deities there, Dr. Mohamed Al Saidi, director of the mission, told the American network.
The items unveiled on Monday included about 150 bronze statues of Egyptian deities of various sizes, including some depicting gods. Anubis, Osiris, Isis and Athor.
“We found two beautiful wooden statues with golden faces of the deities Isis and Nephthys in a sarcophagus, called the patrons of the sarcophagus,” said Mohamed Al Saidi about the artifacts pulled from one of the excavation wells in the cemetery.
Inside the same sarcophagus, archaeologists have discovered a roll of papyrus that they believe can be 9 meters long, and contains chapters of the “Book of the Dead”. The papyrus has been sent to a laboratory at the Egyptian Museum for further examination.
