Celebrities mourn the death of Milton Gonçalves: ‘Thank you for being an inspiration’

Several professional colleagues, politicians and fans mourned the death of actor Milton Gonçalves this Monday (30th). The actor, who was 88 years old, had been facing health complications since 2020, when he had a stroke that left him hospitalized for three months.

With a long career in theater, cinema and television, he has acted in dozens of TV Globo soap operas, such as “Irmãos Coragem”, “Sinhá Moça” and “O Rei do Gado”, in addition to national cinema films, such as ” Macunaíma” and “The Angel was born”.

“The heart is small now,” wrote Lázaro Ramos on social media. “I cry with your departure. And I thank you immensely for all the paths you opened for us.”

“I feel privileged to have watched you on stage, witnessed all your scenic intelligence and for having met so many times at work,” he continued. “Thank you for being an inspiration and for your pioneering spirit. Receive my warmest applause, Milton Gonçalves!”

“When someone of such importance says goodbye to us, I’m always at a loss for words, like now”, commented colleague Zezé Motta. “Milton Gonçalves was one of the most important actors this country has ever had. Milton is part of the history of Brazilian TV. A giant of our culture. A genius, elegant, brilliant professional.”

“There were many sets together, many stories, many families,” recalled the actress. “Our last work together was in the special ‘Together Magic Happens’, which won an award at Cannes. Rest in peace, my dear colleague. Thank you for so much, you are eternal. He is greatly missed… Milton is, Milton always will be a reference.”

Among those who also used social networks to express their views on the actor’s death are names such as Ivam Cabral, Ingrid Guimarães, Daniela Mercury, Mumuzinho, Denise Del Vecchio, Regiane Alves and Camila Queiroz. They highlighted the actor’s elegance in front of the cameras and behind the scenes.

The Special Secretariat for Culture, of the Federal Government, also lamented the death in a note published on social media. “Secult regrets the loss of actor Milton Gonçalves and expresses its sorrow and condolences to family, friends and fans”, says the text. “Culture today loses a great name in Brazilian dramaturgy.”

Some politicians, such as councilor Erika Hilton, federal deputy Benedita da Silva, former deputy Jean Wyllys and presidential candidate Ciro Gomes, also highlighted the actor’s career and representation. In Brazil, Milton’s name reached the top of the trending topics, the list of most talked about topics on Twitter, also reaching third place in the world ranking.

Flamengo, of which the actor was a fan, also published a note of condolence on social media. “The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo deeply regrets the death of the great red-black Milton Gonçalves, who was Social Vice-President, Partner-Owner and Partner Emeritus of the club”, says the text. “To the family and friends of the exceptional actor, we wish him strength at this very sad time.”
