Blocked from the balcony of Buckingham Palace because they have no “active” public role, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex watched the parade from the Duke of Wellington’s old office.
Prince Harry and his wife Megan made a “discreet” public appearance today, the first on Britain two years after they broke up with the royal family and fled to California.
As they were excluded from their balcony Buckingham Palace because they have no “active” public role, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex watched the parade from the Duke’s old office Wellington.
The British tabloids uploaded photos of Megan, in a dark dress and white hat, smiling at the children and telling them to shut up while talking to Harry. The latter also wore a dark suit, which contrasted with the traditional military uniform of his father, Prince Charles, and his older brother, William.
However, the couple is expected to attend the service tomorrow morning at the Cathedral of the Apostle Paul, where they will meet with members of the royal family with whom their relations have been frozen.

Charles’s youngest son, 37, has returned to Britain several times since Megxit and the couple’s “divorce” from the monarchy: for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, in April 2021, and for the unveiling of a statue of his mother, Princess Diana. He and Megan also visited the queen in mid-April, but did not appear in public. Megan did not attend Philip’s funeral because she was seven months pregnant at the time. Her daughter, Lilibette, named after the queen, has not met Elizabeth or her grandfather, Charles. It will be a year on Saturday, during the jubilee celebrations.
The couple also explained that they do not feel safe in Britain because they are not allowed to have police protection. However, according to The Sun newspaper, after their arrival on Wednesday, in a private jet, they were accompanied by the queen’s security men, something that is interpreted as a “calming” gesture.
In Britain, Megan and Harry are unpopular: 63% of people have a bad opinion of them, according to a YouGov poll, while the tabloids do not miss the opportunity to criticize them. They were accused, among other things, of wanting to “destroy” the jubilee by drawing attention to themselves.
“Their departure left the impression that they had turned their backs not only on the country but also on the queen and the institution,” said Omid Scobby, author of a book about the couple. “They hate them and therefore I believe that whatever they do will be magnified and treated in a very negative way,” he added.
