Kate Middleton Honors Diana at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

by

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, 40, paid tribute on Thursday to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, on the first day of celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. She wore a white dress and hat referring to the outfit Diana wore in 1991 to watch a parade of servicemen who served in the Gulf War.

Kate also wore sapphire and diamond earrings, a matching necklace and her engagement ring, all belonging to Princess Diana. The earrings were worn by her mother-in-law at the 1996 Met Gala with a layered pearl necklace that featured a sapphire center.

Middleton wasn’t the only royal to make references to the past. She also dressed her youngest son Prince Louis, 4, in the same nautical sailor outfit that Prince William wore in Trooping the Color when he was just 2 years old.

In contrast, the Duchess’s eldest children with Prince William – George, 8, and Charlotte, 7 – coordinated the outfits with the blue tones of the event as did the Queen and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles. While Princes William and Charles, and Princess Anne wore their military uniforms.

Tens of thousands of people filled the streets of London for the first day of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 70 years of her on the British throne will be celebrated in four days of pageantry, parties, street parades and thousands of other smaller events organized by the British.
