William Bonner, 58, and Jon Bon Jovi, 60, can already say they have something in common. The presenter of Jornal Nacional (Globo) and the rocker were honored during a Voice Foundation event in Philadelphia, United States.
The two even interacted and posed together for photos backstage at the awards, which the Brazilian attended accompanied by his wife, physical therapist Natasha Dantas. Employees from TV Globo’s New York office, such as reporters Carolina Cimenti and Felippe Coaglio, also attended the event.
The award highlights professionals who use their voices as a work tool. Created in 1969, the Voice Foundation is dedicated to research and dissemination of knowledge about vocal health. Since 1973, she organizes a gala in which she honors some professionals —Bonner was the first Brazilian to be remembered.
“I express my respect and my sincere applause for all of you who produce scientific knowledge to educate, improve and heal voices”, thanked the journalist in his speech. “This is a moment in which my voice receives a tribute, and I share this tribute with the voices –which try to silence– of all journalists, in Brazil and in the world.”
The first Voice Foundation awardee was American journalist Walter Cronkite (1916-2009), considered the greatest American news anchor of all time. This year, in addition to Bonner and Bon Jovi, opera singer Vladimir Chernov, 68, was also honored.
