Despite weather warnings of thunder and lightning, hundreds of people took part in the Gloucestershire Cheese Race today.

For the first time since the pandemic, an event was held atop the nearly vertical Cooper Hill in the town of Brockworth, where participants gathered.

It was here that a 9-pound double-glued cheese ring that could travel over 70 mph was launched from the hill.

The rivals climb 200 yards of slopes, and the first to bottom wins cheese.

Many people used to rebel and this year was no different.

Wet conditions exacerbated it, even for those looking for a seasoned cheese that slips on slippery grass and is muddy and slightly bluish.

When former champion Chris Anderson won his 23rd race of 2019 for the first time in a year, it all took seconds.

Soldiers who live in Brockworth said it would be the last year of the tournament after a baby girl was born during a pandemic.

He had 22 wins in 15 years, won three races in 2018 and brought back three of the best cheeses.

The crowd cheered when Anderson took a photo with cheese on her head on Sunday.

“This is the 23rd and last case,” he said. “I was very scared beforehand.”

Meanwhile, Evilamp from North Carolina won the women’s race.

She was found celebrating with previous winner Flo Early.

In later races, the limited 25 people participated, and the tourists won the first prize.

Some contestants came from South Korea to cross a steep slope.

After the victory, the Belgian Rob Gabriels said:

And I love doing crazy and stupid things. Madness is a victory and it feels great. “

Considered one of the strangest events in the world as a “hero of power”, it has been celebrated for centuries, despite the shadow of health and safety risks.

At each event, people suffer multiple fractures and sprains, but many attendees like Anderson always return for the next event.
