With back pain, Alcione records sitting DVD of 50 years of career

by

Alcione, 74, was less ‘loose’ than usual, and that was clear to the audience that filled the Municipal Theater of Rio, this Sunday (5), for the recording of the DVD of her 50-year career. With back pain (“She pinched the sciatic nerve”, informs the advisor), the singer performed sitting for two and a half hours. She only got up once, to change her dress.

Does that mean the show was cold? Little exciting? Not at all. The lack of mobility of the star of the night did not compromise the show, with several moments in which the audience sang along, at the top of their lungs, some of her hits – let Maria Bethânia say it, visibly moved in one of the theater boxes even before the presentation to start.

“I almost never leave the house, but I couldn’t help but come to my friend’s concert. Alcione has always respected and loved my family, she’s like a sister to me,” said Bethânia, one of the few people present to wear a protective mask against the coronavirus.

“Diva!”, “Powerful!”, “Hotty!”, shouted Marrom’s fans, who showed breath: there were, in all, 65 songs lined up – some in pout-pourris, others in full. In addition to the break to change her dress, there was only one interruption, for Alcione to replace her (huge) false eyelashes. “Oh, what the hell”, scolded the singer, with that funny way of hers.

The repertoire of the night included hits that became famous in her voice, such as “Strange madness”, “Either She Or I”, “Smother”, “A Loba”, “You Turn Me A Head”, “My Ebony” and “Saigon “, as well as tributes to his friend Emílio Santiago (1946–2103) and Clara Nunes (1942–1983). Mangueira was also present, with the participation of members of its much-loved and exalted samba school.

Beloved by artists, Alcione was honored at the Municipal by Caio Blat and Luisa Arraes, Gaby Amarantos, Bárbara Paz, Toni Garrido, Luiz Lobianco, Juliana Alves, Guilherme Weber, Matheus Nachtergaele, and by the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, who in last October he was called “Caio Castro” by the singer, in a meeting at Palácio das Laranjeiras.
