The giant human footprint underlines the urgent need for a balance between economic growth, social prosperity and environmental protection
A large-scale “ecological footprint” now adorns the island of Paxos. This is a giant footprint that covers an area of one thousand square meters near the beach in Mogonisi.
“FOOTPRINT”, a work that shows that humanity does more harm than good to nature, was created by the Greek The Krank for this year’s Biennale of Paxos.
The artist used a huge piece of land as a canvas and worked for 15 days silently with his resounding message that “shook” the whole island. The giant human footprint underscores the urgent need for a balance between economic growth, social prosperity and environmental protection, while the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to overshadow global discussions on sustainable development.
His work evokes awe and emotion in visitors as its scale reflects the scale of ecological disaster we cause as a species on the planet.
