The police literature in Rethymno and the mystagogic night in Agios Yakinthos in Psiloritis, open the cultural corridor

Event – discussion on police literature in war and crisis, organized in Rethymno, the Library of the University of Crete, the Reading Club of the Department of Sociology and the Municipality of Rethymno. The aim, as the organizers point out, is for the people of Rethymno to get acquainted with the classic works of the genre and how the authors manage the theme of the war and its consequences.

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 19:00, at the House of Culture, members of the Hellenic Club of Writers of Police Literature (ELSAL), discuss the depiction of war and crisis in police literature, Greek and foreign. It will describe how the authors of police literature and its subspecies have handled the subject of war and its aftermath. References will be made to the classic works of the genre, contemporary literary production will be explored, the time of writing will be examined as well as the response of the reading public. Andreas Apostolidis’ award-winning documentary “Latin Noir” will also be screened, a serious commentary on this genre with its significant literary depth and breadth. The novel, created south of the Rio Grande, in Latin American countries, was born in a global crisis (economic, political, values, justice, legality, etc.), which makes it qualitatively different from that of Europe. According to the organizers, this event is gaining special interest, since – unfortunately – the issue of war is again relevant and that of the crisis has never left the forefront.

Besides, on Saturday, July 2, at 8 pm, the service of Agios Yakinthos in Anogia will take place under the light of candles and stars, in the stone church of Agios in the forest of Psiloritis. This is a mystical evening, where after the all-night service of the priest Andreas Kefalogiannis and the lead singer, Argyros Reppa, a teacher of Byzantine music, with the choir support of the students of the school “ENDOFONO”, the traditional from the well-known female vocal ensemble “THYRATHEN”, church hymns of love from “ENDOFONO”.
