RISE

The screening was also attended by members of the Milwaukee Bucks team including Pat Conaton, Javen Carter and Jordan Noora as well as children from the AntetokounBros Academy.

RISE

The public has never seen a story like the Antikounbo. After migrating from Nigeria to Greece, Charles and Vera Antetokunbo (Dayo Okeniyi and Yetide Badaki, respectively) struggled to survive and provide for their five children, while living daily under threat of deportation. With their eldest son still living in Nigeria with relatives, the couple desperately wanted to obtain Greek citizenship, but their efforts were undermined by a system that prevented them from taking any steps. When they were not selling items to tourists on the streets of Athens with the rest of the family, brothers Giannis (Uche Agada) and Thanasis (Ral Agada) were playing basketball with a local youth team.

RISE

Although they were slow to start the sport, they discovered their unique abilities on the field and worked hard to become world-class athletes, along with their brother, Costa (Jaden Osimuwa). With the help of an agent, John joined the NBA Draft in 2013, in an incredible prospect that would change not only his life but the lives of his entire family. In the 2020-2021 season, Giannis and Thanasis contributed the most for the Milwaukee Bucks to win their first championship after 50 years, while Costas played for the champions of the previous season, the Los Angeles Lakers.

RISE

Dayo Okeniyi, Yetide Badaki, Manish Dayal, Taylor Nichols, Ral Agada and Uche Agada star in “Rise: The History of the Antitokunbo”.

The film was directed by Akin Omotoso (Vaya), written by Arash Amel (Her Own War) and produced by Bernie Goldmann (300). Giannis Antitokoumbo and Douglas S. Jones were executive producers of the film.
