A blood test can detect more than 50 types of cancer, helping to speed up diagnosis, according to a promising new study.

The results of research, carried out in North America, show that the examination was able to detect a wide range of cancersof which 3/4 are not covered by any screening program.

More than half of the cancers were found in early stagewhich are easier to deal with and possibly to are fully cured.

The Galleri testas it is called, manufactured by the American pharmaceutical company Grail, can detect traces of cancer DNA that have been detached from a tumor and circulate in the blood. The test is currently in the testing phase, according to the BBC.

The study was done on 25,000 adults from the US and Canada and lasted a year, with almost 1 in 100 to have a positive result. In 62% of these cases, the cancer was later confirmed.

Lead researcher Nima Nabavizadeh, an associate professor of radiation medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, said the data showed the trial could “change radically» their approach to cancer control.

As he explains, this test could help to early diagnosis of many types of cancerwith the chances of successful treatment or even a cure being greater.

In fact, three-quarters of the cancers detected were cancers for which there is no screening program, such as ovarian cancerof liverof stomachher bladder and his pancreas.

The study’s impressive results suggest that the blood test could eventually play an important role in the early diagnosis of cancer. However, scientists who did not participate in it, argue that more data is needed to prove whether the blood test reduces cancer deaths.
