Amazing creation by the 36-year-old accountant George Patelis who lives in Thessaloniki

Exact model of the building of the Greek Parliament made, with about 5000 pieces of lego36 years old from Thessaloniki, who decided to present it, today, 87 years since July 1, 1935, when the 5th National Assembly solemnly began its work in the new hall of the Plenary Session of the Parliament.

The quarantine period was particularly creative for the 36-year-old accountant George Patelis, since then he decided to design and create the Parliament building with bricks. It was not the first time that he was engaged in his favorite hobby as, as a member of the Association of Modellers with LEGO of northern Greece (thebrick.gr), he had created in 2016 a spaceship with 29,000 bricks!

“Wanting to honor the history of our place and to highlight one of the most emblematic neoclassical buildings in the country, I decided to use lego (in the spirit of the #Architecture series) to build the parliament building, as well as the square with its monument Unknown Soldier. So I searched and found diagrams, aerial photographs, floor plans, I collected data from the website of the Greek Parliament and I started the digital design that I completed in four months “, says Mr. Patelis to APE-MPE. Then he started the fight to gather the pieces he needed, ordered what he needed and started the … building piece by piece.

“This model consists of 4842 pieces and has dimensions of 35cm. x 51cm x 19cm “Only its flag is not made of lego but a creation of my wife with the macrame technique”, explains the 36-year-old, who costs the purchase and transportation of the lego pieces required for the creation of the building, at around 2000 euros.

The only thing that decided to make a difference in the Parliament building is the right side, where it decided not to create the entrance of the garage that exists now, but to leave the ramp that used to exist.

As for the decision to make his creation public today, he explains that July 1st is an important day for the building of the Greek Parliament. “This year marks the 87th anniversary of July 1, 1935, when the Fifth National Assembly began its work in the new hall of the Plenary Session of the Parliament, thus establishing the role of the building, which remains the same to this day,” he explains.

Anyone wishing to see Mr. Patelis’s model up close will have the opportunity, from September 23 to 25, when it will be exhibited at the Thessaloniki Comic Convention “The Comic Con 6”, at the “Ioannis Vellidis” conference center of TIF-Helexpo .
