Lou Taylor, the former business manager of Britney Spears, 40, was involved in conversations that led to the establishment of the pop star’s controversial conservatorship reveal newly emerged emails included in public court documents.
According to Page Six, Britney’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, filed a lawsuit last Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court debunking Taylor’s earlier claim that she “had no role in creating” the guardianship.
An email dated January 17, 2008 reveals that Taylor introduced herself to the then-lawyers of Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, just 15 days before he asked for the singer’s personal and financial guardianship. “I look forward to working with you,” says Taylor in the documents obtained by the site.
Minutes later, Taylor emailed Jamie to alert him that she had “spoken” to lawyers, who would help him manage Britney’s money for 11 years.
Taylor also exchanged emails with attorneys Geraldine Wyle and Jeryll Cohen on January 30, 2008 – two days before the commencement of the injunction – regarding the preparation of an “official statement on behalf of Jamie” to send the press the announcement of the Britney’s guardianship.
Wyle seemed more concerned with finding someone to preside over the case, responding that “the only judge” available “wouldn’t give Jamie the power to administer psychotropic drugs” to Britney. She sent another email suggesting that if the singer’s company paid the bills it would help with court submission issues.
Scott Edelman, a lawyer for Taylor’s firm, told Page Six that the emails are materially misleading. “As all the evidence makes abundantly clear, the conservatorship was created on the recommendation of the attorney and not by Taylor’s firm, which was approved by the court over 12 years ago. In fact, she was not even the business manager of the conservatorship when it was created.”
Without denying that the correspondence is authentic, Edelman added: “Handpicked excerpts of emails cannot change the facts, which is why this nonsense will end once and for all when the records are opened.”
Although a judge ended Britney’s conservatorship in September 2021, Britney and her lawyer refused to let Taylor escape. She vowed to sue the former business manager’s company in a deleted Instagram post in February, adding that her father “adored” Taylor.
