The actor was asked how he sees someone like Tom Cruise bringing in $1 billion at the global box office by reprising his role as Maverick in the “Top Gun” sequel, 36 years after the first.
Mickey Rourke called Tom Cruise “irrelevant” speaking on the Piers Morgan show, saying “this guy’s been playing the same damn thing for 35 years”. He even emphasized that he does not appreciate such a thing at all.
In fact, Mickey Rourke who was a guest on Piers Morgan Uncensored, when asked if he thinks Tom Cruise is a good actor, said that he is “irrelevant” and then explained what he perceives as a good actor. “I’m not interested in money or power. When I see Al Pacino and Christopher Walken, De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris and Ray Winstone, that’s the kind of actor I want to be. Or like Montgomery Cliff and Marlon Brando in their prime. Many, in other words, who had extensive experience as actors”.
“The guy’s been doing the same effing part for 35 years… I got no respect for that.”
