The release of May and Gouldman’s song ‘Floating In Heaven’ coincided with the long-awaited release of the first images brought back to Earth by the telescope.
Their guitarist Queen Brian May and the founder of 10cc Graham Gouldman have released a new song to celebrate the first images from the space telescope James Webb of NASA.
The telescope was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Spaceport in French Guiana on Christmas Day 2021 and became operational this week.
The release of May and Gouldman’s song “Floating In Heaven” coincided with the long-awaited publication of the first images that came to Earth from the telescope.
May, who has a PhD in Astrophysics said: “There is nothing more exciting in a world of exploration than going to a place you know nothing about”.
“The sky’s the limit for what we can discover” he added.
The song’s music video features May playing guitar in “space” while Woldman is seen swinging and singing the soft tune.
H NASA released one of the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope showing the 4.6-billion-year-old galaxy cluster SMACS 0723.
On New Year’s Day 2019, May revealed his song titled “New Horizons” at NASA headquarters in Maryland in the USA as a “tribute” to the spacecraft of the same name.
Another space-related song titled ’39 is featured on Queen’s 1975 album ‘A Night At The Opera’ and tells the story of a group of space explorers who return to find that during their year-long journey, on Earth a century has passed.
