Restoration works at Castle of Koroni and its modernization Archaeological Museum in Chora, with a total budget of 5,500,000 euros, start immediately from the Ministry of Culture and Sports. As he stated, “the Ministry of Culture and Sports protects and upgrades the cultural stock of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestoros by implementing budget projects of more than 5,000,000 with resources from the Recovery Fund and the PEP-ESPA 2014-2020. The difficult and complex task of fixing the walls and rocky slopes of the eastern part of the Castle of Koroni requires knowledge and expertise.

All studies have been completed and approved. The auction of the project is expected in September. In the next few weeks, the contract will be signed with the contractor for the project of modernizing and upgrading the Archaeological Museum in Chora, with a unique wealth of finds, which gives new development and cultural dynamics to the area in combination with the archaeological site of the Palace of Nestor and the network of vaulted Mycenaean tombs, funded by the Recovery Fund. The upgrading of the cultural infrastructure is directly linked to the development of the region. Messinia has unique natural and cultural wealth, comparative advantages for sustainable tourism development and the strengthening of the local economy».

The complex project of fixing and restoring Koroni Castle has already absorbed credits exceeding 10,000,000 euros. The project to be auctioned, with a budget of 2,500,000 euros, financed by the Recovery Fund, concerns the restoration of the eastern part of the Castle, with works to fix and restore the rocky slopes, the wall and the bastion.

The project of modernizing and upgrading the Archaeological Museum of Chora, with a budget of 2,812,000 euros, includes restoration, reinforcement and modernization of the building infrastructure, facilities and networks of the Museum, and organization of the surrounding area, so that it becomes fully functional and accessible.

Lina Mendoni was accompanied by the General Secretary of Culture Giorgos Didaskalou, the Deputy Governor of Messinia Vassilis Kapelios, the Mayor of Pylos-Nestoros Panagiotis Karvelas, the Member of Parliament of Messinia Giannis Lambropoulos, the head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messinia Evangelia Militsis, the Deputy Head of the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Restoration Directorate Monuments of the Ministry of Culture and Sports Efthymia Horafa and officials of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
