1. Control stress
The emotions caused by stress consume huge amounts of energy. Talking to a friend or relative, joining a support group, or seeing a therapist can all help diffuse anxiety. Relaxation therapies such as meditation, self-hypnosis, yoga and tai chi are also effective tools for reducing stress.
2. Exercise
Exercise almost guarantees that you will sleep more soundly. It also gives your cells more energy to burn and also circulates oxygen better. Additionally, exercise can lead to higher levels of dopamine in the brain, which helps elevate mood. When you walk, pick up the pace periodically for extra health benefits.
3. Limit your sleep
If you think you may be sleep deprived, try to sleep less. This tip may sound strange, but determining how much sleep you really need can reduce the amount of time you spend in bed without sleep. This process makes falling asleep easier and promotes more restful sleep in the long run. Also avoid afternoon naps. This starts from the first night. Go to bed later than normal and get just four hours of sleep. If you feel like you slept well during that four-hour period, add another 15-30 minutes of sleep the next night. As long as you are sleeping soundly the entire time you are in bed, continue to slowly add sleep on successive nights.
4.Eat for energy
Eating low-glycemic foods, whose sugars are absorbed slowly, can help you avoid the energy slump that usually occurs after eating fast-absorbing sugars or refined starches. Low-glycemic foods include whole grains, fiber-rich vegetables, nuts, and healthy oils like olive oil. In general, foods high in carbohydrates have the highest glycemic indexes. Proteins and fats have glycemic indexes that are close to zero.
5. Drink water
What is the only nutrient that has been shown to enhance performance for all but the most demanding endurance activities? It’s not some expensive sports drink. It’s water. If your body is dehydrated, one of the first signs is feeling tired.
