The 7th Kastellorizo ​​International Documentary Festival August 21-28, “Beyond the Borders” is under the auspices of A.E. of the President of the Republic

The heart of the documentary beats in the beautiful unspoiled Kastellorizo! The 7th Kastellorizo ​​International Documentary Festival “Beyond the Borders” is again this year under the auspices of A.E. of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou from August 21 to 28, 2022. The initiative of the Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (IDISME), which started seven years ago, has developed into an institution of international scope with important collaborations with bodies and personalities from the field of cinema and intellectuals from all over the world.

The Festival was primarily supported and loved by the residents of Kastellorizos. With persistence, reliability and passion, the partners of IDISME, its General Secretary and the Festival’s artistic director, historian Irini Sarioglou, managed to create a model institution of its kind. Hundreds of directors, producers, managers of other international festivals, film critics, professionals in the field trusted the organization in all previous years and of course the spectators who watch the films, actively participate in its actions and have an additional reason to visit the island during the days of its conduct.

The record number of entries this year proves the reputation and validity the festival has acquired. 790 documentaries were submitted (last year it was 567) from one hundred countries. In the next period, the Qualifying Committee will choose which of them will participate in the International Competition for the organization’s prizes and which in Panorama.

The so-called Historical Documentary does not only concern Greek and international History, but also the effects of events, traces traditions, focuses on the toil of communities, composes portraits of personalities and ordinary people, aims to understand the past, records milestone incidents and everyday stories with aim to inform, awaken, question, travel the public in the global community contributing and contributing to knowledge and awareness.

The Kastellorizo ​​International Documentary Festival “Beyond the Borders” is organized every year in the last week of August at the edge of the Aegean, in Kastellorizo, an island with unparalleled beauty, long history and tradition. The aim is to honor special examples of cinematographic storytelling, to promote pioneering works by famous and new directors from the global community who, based on History and Society, connect the past with the present, bridge gaps and
chasms, study brilliant and unknown monuments of the world heritage, tell common and personal stories, record the past of peoples and cultures from Greece, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia from all over the world.

The Festival is organized by the Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (H.I.S.ME.), in collaboration with Ecrans des Mondes (Paris). It is held under the auspices of S.A. of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, has the support and/or sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of the Interior, the General Secretariat of Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hellenic Parliament, of the South Aegean Region, the Municipality of Megistis, the Embassy of Australia in Athens, the Embassy of the USA in Athens, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens, the Czech Center of Athens, the National Center for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME), the Hellenic Film Center and ERT.
