Luca Guadattino’s documentary on Salvatore Ferragamo is expected to be released in autumn 2022
THE Sony Pictures Classics unveiled the official trailer and poster of the film titled last week “Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams”. The poster depicts the Italian shoe designer’s Calipso stiletto heel, introduced in 1956, while the trailer references his career and many of the personalities featured in the documentary, Martin Scorsese, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin.
The film follows his artistic journey Feragamofrom his childhood in Bonito, his early days as an apprentice shoemaker in Naples, his experience as the owner of the Hollywood Boot Shop in California and his return to Italy to found his eponymous company in Florence.
The documentary features exclusive archival images and stories from members of the Ferragamo family and first-person narration by Michael Stuhlbarg.
“I had worked in a big company and had mastered the art of shoemaking,” says the American actor, speaking as Salvatore Ferragamo, in the trailer. “I felt I was ready to open my own store. I was 12 years old. If I went to America, I could learn their tricks. I started to dream».
Sony has acquired the documentary “Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams” just ahead of its out-of-competition world premiere at the 2020 Venice Film Festival.
