In April, Julian performed his father’s signature hit “Imagine” for the first time at the televised charity concert for Ukraine
Julian Lennon has officially changed his name to Julian Charles John Lennon in 2020 and now explains why he felt this was the best decision for him. Speaking on the podcast, ‘Word in Your Ear’, the son of late Beatles star John Lennon admitted that the pandemic played a major role, as ‘People’ reports.
“It was in 2020, just before we were all locked in a cage, that I finally decided to, for real, legally change my name by default. Originally my name was John Charles Julian Lennon, but I was having quite a few difficulties with my travels, security companies, etc.“, he reveals himself.
“I want to respect my family’s heritage and wishes, but all I did was change ”John” to ”Julian”, so I’m Julian Charles John Lennon. It’s so simple, but to me it’s a whole other world. Really, it is. Not that I’m ashamed or disrespectful. I had to be myself. I needed to be heard, finally, as Julian».
In April, Julian performed his father’s signature hit “Imagine” for the first time at the Global Citizen Stand Up televised benefit concert for Ukraine, which raised over $10 billion for refugee relief. “Why now, after all these years? I’ve always said, the only time I’d ever consider singing “Imagine” would be if the world came to an end,” he wrote in the description of the YouTube clip.
Julian said the show’s positive reception also changed his feelings towards the experience of being considered the son of a… Beatle. “I feel, perhaps, for the first time, that I can move around without fear, with my head held high“, he said during the interview. “You know, on the road in the old days, we’d stop at a restaurant and they’d just play Beatles songs to see if I reacted, to see if it was me. It was so disappointing. Anyway, I’m over all that nowJulian continued. “I’m proud of what I’m doing now“, he added.
