“For the Apollo we loved”. It is the new book of the journalist-author George Arkoulis, who comes to close her ‘trilogy of the brave’, as he himself characterized the series that began in 2015 with the book “History is also written by the runners-up” for Ethnikand it continued in 2020 with the “Panionians never hurt”. That is, a prolonged trek full of backstory for three teams that offered a lot and got “little”. In fact, they received contempt and state silence when the so-called “greats” of Sports in the country leveled them, as a result of which they disappeared from the limelight. But History is not erased, regardless of whether when you recall the past and its memories “it’s like eating blood”, as the Mesolongite poet Thomas Gorpas wrote.
The book “For the Apollo we loved”has joined the anniversary events of the club of Rzoupoli for the hundred years since the Destruction of Smyrna, but also the celebration of more than 130 years since its foundation in the Ionian land, as a musical-cultural and of course sports club,
A large part of the book concerns the works and days of the president for 31 years, Kostas Alamanos, a man with a “razor” mind, excellent eloquence, incredible negotiating skills in the wild world of professional football, who, however, upon completing his term, left the team bankrupt. It is noted that through the 180 pages, the reader will discover unknown behind-the-scenes, which – essentially – constitute the true history of every sports club!
