Andie MacDowell on gray hair: ‘I feel more comfortable’

by

At 64, actress Andie MacDowell has revealed that she prefers to age naturally looking her age and that she is much more comfortable with her gray locks. She stopped her hair dye routine during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

In a recent interview with The Times, the star of the movie “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994) spoke of the relief at the positive response she received for adopting a gray-haired look. With the decision, she follows in the footsteps of other actresses who have given up the dye, such as Helen Mirren and Dawn French.

“I was relieved that people weren’t cruel. They could have been mean to me. But everyone was so loving and kind and I was relieved because I like that so much. I feel more comfortable.”

Andie said she risked graying her hair despite being told not to make the change, as people around her “were advised against”. “I was told, ‘This is not the time,’ but I disagreed. I was bowing to everyone else’s beliefs, but I really want to be where I am and look my age.”

Andie has stated that she has received more male attention and her love life has improved since she embraced her 60s with style and confidence. She said she may have looked younger and more acceptable to someone before, but wants to be appreciated where she is today for her age.

“And the men’s response has been, ‘You look beautiful.’ I think my eyes look greener and it made them shine in a way they didn’t before.”
