Actress Mena Suvari, 43, claimed that one of her ex-boyfriends manipulated her into having threesomes with other women. The star of “American Beauty” (1999) did not name names, but said that she was only 17 years old when she met the lighting engineer.
Suvari claimed that her ex asked her to choose women for a threesome, including those she had met on film sets. She said, in an interview with The Guardian, that she has already met several women years later and stated: “I want you to know that I never wanted to do any of these things”.
The actress said that one of the women was surprised and said that her ex-boyfriend “said you wanted to do this”. “It was a huge revelation for me, how I was being manipulated and I had no idea,” she added. “Circumstances were created for me, and I was swallowed up by it.”
She said that in the same relationship, she was also coerced into using uncomfortable sex toys. “I wasn’t being loved. I was just a body, a vessel for her desires,” she continued.
For Suvari, dating has affected her current relationship with sex. “I never wanted to talk negatively about things that can be very healthy for other people. [Mas], I wasn’t given the choice or permission to do that, and that’s what was so destructive to me. It’s a very confusing thing when you’re sexually abused, because some of it is satisfying. But the other part is an absolute nightmare.”
The artist, who is currently married to Michael Hope, has also claimed to have been a victim of sexual abuse in her memoir, titled “The Great Place”, in which she recounts her years of drug addiction and the sexual abuse she suffered. The actress felt compelled, by the #MeToo movement and by the example of the women who shared their stories, to share their experiences.
