A woman who sued singer Bob Dylan, 81, for alleged sexual abuse when she was 12 years old has dropped the case after the artist’s lawyers accused her of destroying evidence. Dylan always denied that he had committed any kind of abuse.

In August of last year, the plaintiff, whose identity is not known, filed a complaint alleging that Dylan had abused her for a period of six weeks between April and May 1965. The lawsuit says the singer “exploited his prestige as a musician ” to provide “alcohol and drugs and sexually abuse” the woman, who was a teenager at the time.

Last Wednesday (27), Dylan’s legal team sent a letter to federal court in which they accused the plaintiff of having deleted important text messages and suggested that “monetary penalties” were necessary.

On Thursday (28), the same team reported that the woman had dropped the case. Her lawyers did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment. “The case is closed,” said Orin Snyder, Dylan’s lead attorney.

In August 2021, when the indictment was released, the victim was identified as JC, resided in Greenwich, Connecticut, and was 68 years old. At the time, the whistleblower further said that the emotional effects led her to seek medical treatment for depression and anxiety.
