At an altitude of 750 meters on the slopes of Mount Vora, there is a welcoming traditional village with an incredible view of Lake Vegoritida and the wonderful plain with orchards.
Travel Inspiration takes us to the village that was originally called Oslovo. However, it was renamed Panagitsa by the refugees, who, with little supplies but unlimited mental strength, arrived after the population exchange in 1926.
Later, in the 1950s, American heretics arrived in the village and taught the locals how to grow trees. So, today, many villagers are engaged in the cultivation of apples, cherries, peaches and other products produced in the plain.
The area has been designated as an archaeological site since 1997. To the east of the village was found a cemetery dating to the late Byzantine years, while to the southwest has been located an ancient settlement, dating from the Bronze Age to the Hellenistic years, with particularly strong evidence of habitation in the Iron Age.
It is a breath away from “Arachova of the North”, the tourist Agios Athanasios and the ski resort of Kaimaktsalan, and has its own strong character, strengthening the surrounding area. Hostels, traditional taverns with good food, artificial snow trails for white sports enthusiasts, an aerobatic center with stunts and a specially designed moto-cross racetrack, are some of what it has to offer.
Its three artificial lakes, from which it irrigates and operates a hydroelectric plant that supplies the local network, happily adorn the table of its entity. They are ideal for walking, relaxing, coffee and exploring nature. Silver waterfalls with wonderful running waters but endless beauty, will steal your heart and make you think that this is a special village with incredible beauty for all tastes, which is really worth visiting.
