Dubbed “The Sneakerpool,” it comes in the form of a pair of Adidas ZX 1000s.
The German DIY brand HORNBACH collaborated with the sports shoe store 43einhalb on a unique project: they presented a colossal pair of Adidas which hosts a pool. The project was realized in collaboration with Berlin-based studio Neulant van Exel.
Dubbed “The Sneakerpool,” it takes the form of a pair of Adidas ZX 1000s and is constructed with materials such as tile, wire mesh, linen, and hoses, among others; materials can be obtained from either HORNBACH or a hardware store. Surrounding the pool, the ‘XXL’ size pair of sneakers has been reworked in outrageous detail.
Introducing ‘Sneakerpool’, the brand underlines its mission to “encourage people to be as creative as possible, to develop their own DIY projects and not put limits on themselves”. She recalled her previous creative mixes: “Most recently, with Ai Weiwei, who developed with DIY materials a complete work of art to reproduce at home. Previously, Danish designer Sigurd Larsen and Japanese architect Yo Shimada designed furniture with exclusive DIY materials.”
For HORNBACH, sports and “Do it yourself” are two ways of self-expression, this particular project combines the two ways. “With the help of assembly instructions, anyone can create this designer piece of furniture at home. With “Sneakerpool”, HORNBACH takes a step into the sneaker scene,” they emphasized.
