Millie Bobby Brown says that, after criticism from the director, she wanted to give up being an actress

In an interview with Allure magazine, Millie Bobby Brown revealed that, at age 10, she received criticism from a casting director that almost made her give up on being an actress. According to her, after an audition she was advised not to pursue her attempts to break into the audiovisual industry because she was “too mature” — and therefore would not be successful.

“I always knew I was mature and I couldn’t help it,” she said. “But hearing that was really hard because I thought it was a good thing. And knowing it wasn’t, that I couldn’t stand up to this industry, was really painful.”

However, at age 11, she even told her parents that she didn’t want to keep trying, but they insisted she should apply for just one more audition. “My parents told me ‘just record this last test and then you can go outside and play with your friends again’.” The last attempt paid off: she won the role of Eleven, the protagonist of the Netflix series “Stranger Things”, which made her world famous.

She was very pleased because she always wanted to play roles close to her age, even though the casting director said she didn’t have that ability. “I’ve always appreciated being able to be different people because I’ve always had issues with my identity and self-knowledge,” she says, now 18.

“Even at a young age, I always felt like I didn’t belong anywhere I was. I always felt alone in crowds because no one understood me. So I liked playing roles that people understood and could relate to because I thought no one could. do this with Millie”, he explains.
