Daniela Mercury announces that she will not perform at Carnival: ‘Very uncertain scenario’

by

Singer Daniela Mercury, 56, announced that she will not perform during Carnaval 2022 to avoid crowding. According to her, when evaluating the situation in the country, the conclusion is that “the scenario is very uncertain”.

“I’m already considering that in Bahia, the government and city hall will not hold Carnival 2022, even though there is still no official announcement. And, despite the São Paulo party being maintained, and Pipoca da Rainha is so traditional in São Paulo’s revelry , unfortunately I will not parade in 2022”, she says in a statement.

According to the artist, if the authorities maintain the festivities, her and her team’s idea is to try, as far as possible, to hold some events throughout the summer.

“Always with limited public and with the requirement of two doses of vaccine. In addition, I continue to encourage my fans and all Brazilians to wear a mask. The moment is not yet of complete tranquility”, says Mercury, who has also just launched in all digital platforms “As Rendas do Mar”, a tribute to all women in the figure of Iemanjá.

Her decision comes after a mess generated at an event with singer Claudia Leitte. Her name was among the most talked about topics on Twitter in Brazil at the time. However, the cause was not positive, the hashtag #ClaudiaLeitteGenocida was highlighted the day after the singer presented the electric trio Blow Out, in the Espaço das Américas parking lot, in São Paulo.

The singer’s Instagram informed that the show would respect the precautions to contain the proliferation of Covid-19. “Event held with limited audience, requirement of proof of vaccine and other health requirements established by the health department of São Paulo”, said the publication with a photo of Leitte ready to join the trio.

The images of the singer’s block, however, contrasted with the information, as it was possible to see a large agglomeration formed by people without masks, which is not allowed in the capital of São Paulo.

Among the praise from famous people such as Giovanna Antonelli, Susana Vieira and Fabiana Karla, criticism from Internet users began to emerge. “Hey, I thought we were still in a pandemic,” one wrote. “First a story with a mask behind the scenes, and then finally agglomerate the hypocrisy”, said another.
