‘Tchutchuca’: funker explains origin of term that made Bolsonaro lose his composure

by

Ten little letters form the word of the moment: Chutchuca. It’s only been on the networks, at bar tables and in the national and international press since this Thursday afternoon (18), when President Jair Bolsonaro reacted furiously to being called “Tchutchuca do Centrão” by youtuber Wilker Leão, in Brasília. .

Since then, experts, lay people and the curious in general have tried to explain the etymology of the word. They have already reached prehistory in this search for its origin, but so far there is only one certainty: it was popularized by the carioca funk group Bonde do Tigrão in the early 2000s, with the funk band of the same name. It became a hit.

In an interview with F5, the lead singer of Bonde, Leandro Moraes, tells what, after all, is a Tchutchuca, and who inspired him to write the lyrics. Contrary to what many people think, it is not a case of taking the children out of the room. Leandrinho, as the funk singer is called, denies any trace of machismo or vulgarity.

“When I made the song, I was thinking about my nephew. He had just been born, and we called him Tchutchuco”, he says. “There was also a soap opera on Globo called ‘Uga Uga’, in which an Indian wanted to hold a woman’s breasts and kept saying ‘chuck chuck'”. It was from this mix, he guarantees, that the carioca funk classic was born. But, high up.

It is undeniable that there is (enough) malice in the lyrics. Was Leandrinho thinking about his nephew when he wrote “Come, come, chutchuca / Come here to your tiger / I’m going to throw you on the bed / And give you a lot of pressure”?

The funk singer does not deny that the word is, rather, a slang aimed at “women”, in his own words. He, however, refutes the idea of a submissive woman.

“As much as our lyrics have a double meaning, Tchutchuca has a legal meaning of love, affection, affection and respect”, assures the funkeiro. Okay, okay. But he failed to agree with Bolsonaro and Paulo Guedes, the first high-ranking member to climb the clogs when called that.

This was in 2019, when PT deputy Zeca Dirceu stated, at a hearing of the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), that the Minister of Economy acted as a “Tiger” in relation to retirees, the elderly and people with disabilities, but as ” Chutchuca” in relation to the bankers and the “most privileged class in the country”. For what.

Irritated, almost angry, Guedes retaliated and shouted to the congressman that “Tchutchuca is your mother
and your grandmother!” Even with the microphone off, I could hear every syllable in the live broadcast. Tchutchuca: Since 2019, getting politicians mad in Brazil.
