Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 says he accidentally made his cancer public

by

Blink-182 musician Mark Hoppus, 49, said the initial announcement about having cancer was made in error rather than intentionally. Now cured of cancer, the group’s bassist explained that the post made on his Instagram where his health condition came to light was a mistake.

In the image posted in June, a photo of her appeared with the caption “Hello, a cancer treatment, please.” The photo should have been published only for the musician’s close friends, an existing resource on the social network.

However, by mistake, his more than one million followers ended up seeing the image. The revelation was made in an interview with GQ magazine.

He said that initially his agent sent a message asking if he really wanted to do that, namely, make it public that he had cancer. Then several radio stations and friends started calling asking about his health.

Although he quickly deleted the post after realizing what he had done, it was no longer possible to deny what had happened. In a statement published on Twitter later on, he said he was trying to remain positive and hopeful.

“I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, but at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors, family and friends who help me through it,” he wrote at the time.

Hoppus had been diagnosed a few months before he made his disease public with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. This is an aggressive form of blood cancer that had plagued his mother before.

In late November, the bassist wrote on his Instagram account that he was cured of the disease. “I have a lot to be thankful for today. This photo is from June, halfway through the chemo, no idea if it was working or not, relegated to the bathroom floor, nauseated. If I ever complain about something trivial or unimportant, show it me this photo to remind me how bad things can be and how truly blessed I am. I hope everyone has an amazing day with friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving,” he wrote.
