“Tinos has many of the same advantages that its neighbors boast: whitewashed buildings, sandy beaches and temperate waters. It also has traditions that the locals are proud to share.”

With this preface he presents the “Muse of the Aegean” the BBC in an extensive report made on the island by the journalist Victoria Gregg.

Referring to the Minister of Tourism’s statements, the British journalist notes: “Mr Kikilias says that his country’s strategy of trying to spread tourist numbers across many destinations could help reduce the problem of overtourism that plagued so many of the popular parts of the world before the pandemic.

Tinos is such a destination. It is one of the 33 islands and islets that make up the Cyclades, one of the most famous island groups in the country. The island is best known to the Christian community, which sees thousands make the annual August pilgrimage to the Holy Church of Panagia Evangelistria of Tinos.”

The tribute is accompanied by rich photographic material and narratives of producers involved in cheese making and other local products, pointing out the hospitable disposition of the inhabitants which, as he writes, “makes Tinos – and Greece – unique”.
