‘Zoey 101’ actress says she didn’t feel safe on Nickelodeon

by

Actress Alexa Nikolas, 30, known for starring in the Nickelodeon series “Zoey 101” (2005-2008), organized a protest outside the company’s California headquarters. She stated that she “didn’t feel safe” during her time on the series and lashed out at company executives.

Nikolas, who starred in the series alongside Jamie Lynn Spears, told TMZ that his experience was “traumatic”. “I didn’t feel protected on Nickelodeon as a kid, personally. [Agora]I’m demanding that Nickelodeon start protecting children and not predators,” he said.

“I didn’t feel safe around Dan Schneider while working at Nickelodeon,” she said of the creator of the series and classics like “iCarly” (2007-2012). “What we’re seeing here is a lot of ‘professional executives’ at Nickelodeon who didn’t protect the kids on set. The kids at Nickelodeon weren’t safe, at least when I was on it.”

The artist’s protest comes shortly after actress Jennette McCurdy, 30, who played Sam Puckett in “iCarly” released a memoir. Over the course of the project, she says she had to endure many embarrassments and indignities on Nickelodeon.

She revealed that she had to pose in a bikini for a test photo shoot and that she was encouraged to drink alcohol by an intimidating figure she simply calls “the Creator”. The original series of “iCarly” ended in 2012, and “Sam & Cat” only lasted one season, 2013/2014; after that, McCurdy reveals in the book, she turned down a $300,000 bonus offer from Nickelodeon if she agreed never to speak publicly about her experiences on the network.
