Former basketball player Shaquille O’Neal, 50, clarified his comments about the Earth being flat after taking a flight from the United States to Australia. The NBA star said his opinion is “just a theory”.
He was asked if his comments were a joke or if he truly believed the earth would be flat, in an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show radio show. “They teach us a lot of things. It’s just a theory,” he replied.
He then explained his reasoning using flight as an example. “I flew 20 hours today, not once have I been here,” he explained, adding that at no point during the flight did the plane “tip over” or “turn upside down.”
He even said he’s not sure if the planet is spinning. “You know they say the world is spinning? I’ve lived on a lake for 30 years and I’ve never seen the lake move left or right,” added the Los Angeles Lakers star.
The athlete spoke his opinion on the subject for the first time in 2017, on the podcast The Big Podcast With Shaq. “It’s true. The Earth is flat. There are three ways to manipulate the mind – what you read, what you see and what you hear. In school, the first thing they teach us is, ‘Oh, Columbus discovered America'” began at the time.
“But when he got there, there were some fair-skinned people with long hair smoking their peace pipes. So what does that tell you? Columbus didn’t discover America. I’m just saying. I drive from Florida to California all the time. , and it’s a plan for me,” added the basketball star.
