You know that water is good for your body at all levels. One of them is aging.
Water plays an important role in human life. It keeps the skin glowing and healthy, improves your energy levels, hydrates your body and contributes to the better functioning of the body’s organs.
New York-based dietitian Niti Patel, RD, MS, explains that drinking water and aging are linked. “Water is in all our cells,” he says, “and these cells need water to function effectively.” “From lubricating your joints to pumping blood to your muscles, we need water to perform almost any physical function,” he explains.
Recent data from the CDC show that between 2015 and 2018, the amount of water consumed by Americans decreased with age. Water accounted for 57% of total daily fluid intake for adults aged 20-39, 50% among adults aged 40-59 and 47% among adults aged 60 and over.
The research may have been done for the Americans, but we in Greece are probably not far away. After all, the same is true for everyone: Depending on our level of activity and any chronic diseases, our need for water intake may decrease as we grow older. And also, as we grow older our thirst decreases.
To overcome this inevitable part, it is enough to get into good habits with water while we are still younger.
A good habit, the expert explains, is to always have water near you.
“Do not wait until you are thirsty [για να πιείς νερό]”, says. “It is always good to drink either water or a drink during the day.
Here are 3 ways to do it:
- Always keep a bottle with you. At work, at home, in the gym. In addition, do not skip it after your meals.
- Foods rich in water. One of them is the cucumber. In general, fruits and vegetables will instantly hydrate you.
- Try drinking warm water with lemon in the morning. Your body gets a mini dehydration at night. This morning drink will activate your body.
Aging means dehydration. As you can see, hydration means more than just a glass of water.
Hydration contributes to less menstrual cramps. It also helps fight memory loss. In addition, do not forget the health of your skin, body and organs.
You will not always be thirsty. Get used to this pattern. Gradually your body will learn. As you get older it will be more normal for you to get enough water.
