The eldest son of Malu Mader and Tony Bellotto, João, 30, was criticized in the nets after commenting on the trail of the Rinjani volcano in Indonesia, where Juliana Marins died of a cliff on June 21. The actor and filmmaker classified tourist activity as “very dangerous” and stated that anyone who ventured to walk around would be putting their lives at risk. “They are looking for tragic death so much that one hour she comes. I have no pity,” he said, without mentioning the name of the Brazilian.
The statement repercussions quickly and divided the netizens. While some defended John’s right to free opinion, others pointed to his insensitivity to a tragedy that shocked the world. This Thursday (3), the artist disabled the comments in his Instagram account and deleted the post. Then he made a new publication: “You have to ban these tours, ban. Please don’t do that anymore, I speak for the safety of those who go to such a thing. It’s very dangerous, people,” he wrote.
John also reinforced the warning about the risks of the Mount Rinjani Trail, located on unstable terrain, with slippery and steep stretches, as well as being in an area prone to volcanic eruptions. “The number of accidents and deaths recorded on site reinforces the need for fitness, appropriate equipment and monitoring of experienced guides,” he said.
Juliana Marins was on a trip to Indonesia when she suffered a drop during the rise to Mount Rinjani, an active volcano and very popular tourist spot among backpackers. The accident occurred on Saturday, June 21, and only three days later, on Tuesday (24), the rescue team managed to approach Juliana and confirmed her death. The body was rescued the next day.
Bali’s autopsy pointed to multiple fractures and internal lesions. According to the coroner, Juliana would have survived for about 20 minutes after the impact. Disagreeing with the initial report, the family called the Brazilian justice and, with the support of the Federal Public Defender’s Office, requested a new autopsy. The young woman’s body will be veiled this Friday (4), at Parque da Colina Cemetery, in Pendotiba, Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio.
