Some tips for quick recovery and relief.
Our immune systems can take a hit this time of year, so it’s important to take care of yourself. Eat well (try not to reach for sugary snacks when you’re feeling tired), take a good quality vitamin supplement, get plenty of sleep and try to find some time in your day to relax.
Sometimes you may need extra help to feel better. All the tips we collected are based on natural ingredients, but if you are pregnant be careful with essential oils and check their suitability before using them.
1. Chop some fresh ginger and mix it in hot water, a slice of fresh lemon, a pinch of cinnamon, a clove and a star anise. Drink this frequently throughout the day to ease inflammation and boost your immune system.
2.Make an immune-boosting syrup, like elderberry syrup, and add it to oats, smoothies, or yogurt for extra vitamin C and anthocyanins. Give your children a spoonful every day to help them ward off infections and stay healthy in the winter.
3.Make a spritz to spray bed sheets and pillowcases. Simply fill a spray bottle with one part vodka, four parts water and 30 drops of essential oils of your choice. Lavender, chamomile, bergamot and rose geranium are all wonderful oils that create a calming yet energizing atmosphere in your home.
4. Use a base of pure almond oil, add beeswax and a few drops of thyme and cedarwood to create an expectorant balm. Rub it on your chest to relieve a chesty cough or breathing problems. You could also leave out the beeswax and use a few drops of the scented oil on a tissue to inhale throughout the day or on your pillow at night.
