Nicosia is attempting to decline the tension created in Cyprus-Greece relations yesterday, after a weekend of tension and accusations of the two countries’ electric interconnection project. The Cypriot President’s statements about the effort to blackmail Cyprus by ADMIE have turned into statements of sympathy and co -operation with regard to the project, with Nikos Christodoulides declaring that the relations between the two countries and governments are more powerful than ever.

Contrans for the ADMIE letter

Days of unprecedented tension were preceded by a publication in the Cyprus press and the newspaper “The Liberal”, which concerned a letter from the Greek ADMIE project implementation to the Cyprus Regulatory Authority requesting compensation for expenditure prior to the completion of the project. The Cypriot president was asked about it and reacted with anger, stating that “if the head of ADMIE thinks that such letters or paid registrations the Cypriot government is blackmailed, he obviously does not know who he has to do with.”

The acute attitude of the Cypriot President brought a meeting to Maximus and the response of Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou that “the Hellenic Republic does not blackmail” and the re -appeal to Nicosia to clarify its position on the project.

The real “thorn”

The public statements of the governments and bodies involved, however, are absent, however, references to the geopolitical part of the Cyprus -Greece electrical interconnection issue, which concerns Turkish claims in the maritime area southeast of Crete. In essence, Turkish claims in the region and continuous postponements in the NAVTEX version for the realization of sinks are delayed in the cable pont the cable manufactured by Nexans in Norway, resulting in economic data being differentiated, as well as causing problems with the timetables.
