It is considered one of the oldest Athenian houses and is among the few examples of popular architecture from the last period of the Turkish occupation.

32 Tripodon Street, Athens – Plaka

It is one of the most famous houses of Greek cinema, the “Kokovikou House”, where in 1965 “The Woman Shouldn’t Fear the Man” was filmed. The house shown in the film still exists at 32 Tripodon Street and Ragava Street, in the Plaka area.

It dates from 1800 and housed the military administration of the Turks. On the plot of the building, the archaeologists discovered the base of a sponsored monument, in the shape of a tripyl. Ancient Vespian latrines were also found, proving that the site was used for public urinals.

It is a three-story 266 square meter building with a basement and two floors on a plot of land with a total area of ​​411.37 square meters. and belongs to the pre-neoclassical buildings of Athens with tiled roofs, where the shared courtyard played a decisive role, with rooms-apartments, many windows and an external built staircase.

It is considered one of the oldest Athenian houses and is among the few examples of popular architecture from the last period of the Turkish occupation.

In 1965, the director and screenwriter Giorgos Tzavellas chose it to host the filming of his film “The Woman Shouldn’t Fear the Man”, which was even screened abroad, winning an award at a Chicago festival.

The protagonist couple Maro Kontou and Giorgos Konstantinou get married and move into the house on Tripodon street which becomes the background for some of the most iconic scenes of the film, such as Konstantinou’s remark “I take my little hat and leave…”.

In 1995, it was classified as a historical preserved monument by the Ministry of Culture.
